John McCanna

Chairman and CEO

John McCanna started his career in Nondestructive Testing (NDT) in 1983. For the next 21 years, he completed his military career as a Senior Non-Commissioned Officer, specializing in NDT where he achieved ISO-CGSB Level-3 certification in Eddy Current Testing, Ultrasonic Testing, General and Aircraft Structures Radiography Testing, Penetrant Testing and Magnetic Particle Testing.

Upon completion of his military service, John was offered a management position at Ontario Power Generation (Nuclear) looking after the Piping and Components Division. From here John was seconded to Durham Technical College/University, to set up and deliver a full (all methods) three year NDT training course in conjunction with the Mechatronics Program.

John then moved on to Sandvik Steel, where he was appointed as the NDT Manager for the Canadian and USA operations in the stainless and duplex tubing mills.

An opportunity arose which enabled John to move into the "Off-shore Oil & Gas Industry", providing Automated Ultrasonic Inspections on newly constructed pipelines. This allowed John exposure to differing cultures in such diverse regions as United States, Mexico, Europe, United Kingdom, Ireland, Norway, Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Thailand, Indonesia, Africa, Singapore, Australia, and others.

Upon completion of this chapter, John moved into the Canadian Oil Sands Region in the Fort McMurray location working for such esteemed companies as Canadian Natural Resources, Suncor, etc. It was during this period that John switched back from the Client side to the service industry when he accepted the position of Vice President of NDT Technology with IRISNDT.

With potential retirement on the horizon, John wasn’t quite ready to settle down and call it a day, as he felt he had more to contribute to the NDT industry. Therefore, when the opportunity arose to create a new NDT company "Global Integrity & Specialty Services" GISS for short, he eagerly accepted. The hallmark of this new organization was leading edge technology with a focus on such values as Integrity, honesty, nurturing Client relationships, competency of our people, and creating value for both GISS and our Clients. John currently holds the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
